Typically when we fly to a destination, we make it a round trip. This time it worked out a bit different. I had dropped the plane off in New Smyrna for Annual. I had intended to pick it up last weekend but the nose strut was being resealed and the new O-ring was either defective or got damaged in the process so the plane was grounded while I waited for the new ring to arrive.
We had planned a trip down to Daytona Beach so it ended up working out rather nicely. We would drive down, vacation and then pick the plane up Friday. This would actually save some driving and sort of let me count the trip as a fly away vacation.
We have been to Daytona before and its sort of quaint but not much to do other than the beach. We did find some fun food including revisiting "Cow Lick's" for Ice cream. Their definition of a scoop is about triple mine. CC and I split a 3 scoop cup which was way more than we needed but delicious.
We also had to contend with the unexpected formation of Mindy which changed our Thursday plans. We were going to try to Kayak but the winds were howling and there were passing showers so we played it safe and walked the beach and boardwalk while dodging weather.
It's nice to have the plane back, We did a quick night flight last night and then I practiced maneuvers this morning, need to make up for the lost time.
